A procedure, usually programmed for a computer, for defining the boundaries of electoral constituencies. Such algorithms became popular in the USA after the Supreme Court outlawed malapportionment in the 1960s; they are used to produce constituencies (such as a Congressional District) which conform to the equal-population requirement. (RJJ) |
