The same, in an arithmetic sense. Individual incomes are equal if people receive the same number of pounds, dollars or whatever in the same period of time. Equality in a geographical context is a more difficult concept because it is dependent on the nature and level of territorial aggregation adopted. For example, a set of regions may have the same income per capita and thus exhibit equality, while differences (inequality) may exist within them at a sub-regional or local level. Furthermore, equality among population aggregates at any spatial scale can obscure inequality among individuals and groups, such as racial minorities.
