Geographical concern with justice tends to fall into two distinct if related fields: criminal justice (see crime, geography of), and a broader concern with societal institutions and their distributional outcomes, or social justice. The difference is sometimes portrayed as between procedural justice and equity, although distributional outcomes are certainly influenced by procedures (such as the law, or the rules and practices of a social security agency used to distribute benefits). Consideration of criminal justice has emerged as a specific topic of interest on the part of a limited number of geographers in recent years (see law, geography of). (DMS) |
