An American term for the unequal distribution of public goods in order to promote a party\'s or a candidate\'s re-election prospects. Although not exclusively American, the activity is particularly common there because of the individual nature of much campaigning for Congressional office: the term is also applied more generally to describe any apparent government favouritism of certain areas. (RJJ) |
