Statistical methods, many of them based on multidimensional scaling, for deriving an aggregate set of decision rules from a series of individual decisions (e.g. in the choice of which shopping centre to patronize). The individual observed choices are termed behaviour in space; the general rules (unconstrained by any particular spatial arrangements of alternatives) are called the rules of spatial behaviour (Rushton, 1969). (RJJ)
